Jonathan meets Obasanjo in Adeboye, Oyedepo’s presence

President Goodluck Jonathan met yesterday with his estranged godfather, former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta in the presence of two top clerics.
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God and Bishop David Oyedepo, General Overseer of Living Faith Church attended the meeting as witnesses at Obasanjo’s request, Daily Trust learnt.
Jonathan had tried in the past months to meet with the former President at his Abeokuta home.
But Obasanjo had always insisted that he won’t receive Jonathan at home, but would rather show respect and meet the President in the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
It was gathered that the move is to prevent past occurrences where the duo were misrepresented in the media.
Only last week, the president who is battling the political battle of his life sought to get the blessing of Obasanjo, but, met a brick wall.
And may use the presence of the highly respected Nigerians to commit or make u-turn on some policies and actions of the Peoples Democratic Party, which had rubbed off negatively on Obasanjo.
The meeting was scheduled to hold in the afternoon before Jonathan’s presidential rally began in Abekuta.
However, the former President and chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reportedly left his Abeokuta Hilltop house at exactly 2.59pm, while president failed to show up.
Sources close to Obasanjo hinted that President Jonathan was not on the list of guests expected yesterday, even as another claimed the number one citizen does not need such listing.
Operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) who had earlier besieged the Obasanjo’s Hilltop mansion as early as 6a.m in anticipation of the President’s arrival also left the place at 3: 36p.m when it became obvious that Jonathan was no longer coming.
However, by 7pm, Jonathan and the two prominent clerics assembled at Obajsanjo’s house and the meeting got underway.
Journalists were barred from entering the house, but hungry for news they waited outside.
About two hours later news filtered out that President Jonathan had left the house through a private exit. The other guests were also not seen, and no one was available for comment as at press time.

What Oyedepo Told Covenant University Students To Do To Make Spiritual Investment – A MUST READ

Chancellor of Covenant University, Dr. David Oyedepo, has urged students to invest into their future, because life only gives back what one INVESTS into it.
This advice was made at the Opening Assembly on Monday, January 5, 2015 to welcome the students into the New Year and Omega semester.
The Chancellor, represented by the immediate past Registrar and Resident Pastor, Faith Tabernacle, Canaan Land, Pastor Nbong Ntia, made reference to 1Timothy 4:7-8, and Hebrew 6:5, emphasising the need for spiritual INVESTMENT.
He stated further that to achieve success in life, one must embrace spiritual INVESTMENT, so that all other efforts are not rendered futile. “There are certain things you will never be able to touch in your life except you are given to prayer and fasting”, he said.
According to him, Daniel and the three Hebrew boys made INVESTMENTSthat made them ten times better than their colleagues. “This is when you need to invest into the future, so that the days ahead will be very good,” he added.
He concluded with Oprah Winfrey’s quote on excellence, “I was raised to believe that excellence is the best deterrent to racism or sexism”, stressing that students should thrive for excellence.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor Charles Ayo noted that “There is no substitute for godliness if you must maximize your destiny on earth”. He, therefore, advised the students to embrace godliness.
While making reference to Proverbs 4:20-23, Proverbs 1:10 and 2 Chronicles 1:8, he assured the students of a better interaction with industries to keep them apprised of current happenings in their field. He also promised closer ties with other world-class Universities during the next summer.
The Vice-Chancellor also reiterated the need to work harder to get the University listed among the first ten leading universities in the world.

Ghanaian Socialite Caught With Drugs Sentenced To 8yrs By London Court

The popular Ghanaian socialite, Nayele Ametefe also known as Ruby Adu-Gyamfi, who was arrested on November 10th 2014 at London’s Heathrow Airport, with 12kg of cocaine worth about $5 million, has been sentenced to 8 years in prison by a London court. She was sentenced yesterday January 6th after pleading guilty. Her other accomplices are currently on trial

Jonathan/Obasanjo Face-Off: Ex-President Worse Than Hitler, Forerunner Of Anti-Christ, Says Fmr Senate Whip

A former Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Rowland Owie, has alleged that the main reason former President Olusegun Obasanjo is constantly throwing jibes at the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan was because the latter has refused to allow itself to be controlled by the former Nigerian leader. The ex-senator also blamed the difficult times Nigerians are passing through today to the faulty foundations laid by Mr. Obasanjo when he was president.
He said: “The former president should apologize to Nigerians rather tha
n blame the administration of President Jonathan which is doing very well for Nigerians.
“I am impressed that more and more Nigerians are getting to know that Obasanjo is not truthful and claims to be what he is not. Obasanjo ran the most corrupt government since the amalgamation of Nigeria. The revenue that Obasanjo got in only one year of his wasted eight years regime was almost the total revenue that Ibrahim Babangida’s regime got in eight years. While many legacies were left behind by IBB’s regime, there is nothing good that can be traced to Obasanjo’s regime.
“All Obasanjo was known for was election rigging both within the PDP and the general elections. Obasanjo openly rigged out late Sunday Awoniyi at the PDP national convention in 2000 at Eagle Square in favour of colourless opponents. He used the police to invade the Apo Mansion, all in his bid to ruin the independence of the National Assembly. Obasanjo is worse than Hitler. Obasanjo is like a poisonous crop that germinated on Nigerian soilHe should hide his head in shame as he is the forerunner of the anti-Christ. In the Benin Kingdom before the arrival of the whites, a man like Obasdanjo who failed woefully in public administration would have been banished. The problem between Jonathan and Obasanjo is that Jonathan refused to be his errand boy.
“There is no President of Nigeria that Obasanjo has not fought. Even the late Musa Yar’Adua, whom he brought without the consent of the North, he fought, even after the latter’s death”.

Boko Haram kills dozens in fresh raids in Nigerian town

Boko Haram militants have killed dozens of people and burned down homes in the northeast Nigerian town of Baga in the past two days, in a second killing spree since seizing control there at the weekend, witnesses said on Thursday.
Two locals said the Islamist insurgents began shooting indiscriminately and burning buildings on Tuesday evening in raids on the civilian population that carried on into Wednesday.
"I escaped with my family in the car after seeing how Boko Haram was killing people ... I saw bodies in the street. Children and women, some were crying for help," Mohamed Bukar told Reuters after fleeing to the state capital Maiduguri.

The insurgency killed more than 10,000 people last year, according to a count by the Council on Foreign Relations in November. It is seen as the gravest threat to Nigeria, Africa's biggest economy, and a headache for President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of an election on Feb. 14.
Soldiers fled Baga over the weekend when the Sunni jihadist group overran a nearby army base.
The district head of Baga, Abba Hassan, said on Thursday that at least 100 people were killed when the group first took over the town on the edge of Lake Chad.
Abubakar Gulama, who escaped without his family to Monguno, 40 km (25 miles) away, said he crossed "many dead bodies on the ground" and that "the whole town was on fire".
Reuters TV footage showed scores of civilians waiting on sandy streets on the outskirts of Baga to catch buses out of town. Many carried the few possessions they had salvaged, such as bags of clothes and rolled up mattresses.
In the last week, around 2,000 Nigerians and 500 Chadians have fled Boko Haram attacks in Chad's Lake region, Chadian Prime Minister Kalzeubet Pahimi said on Wednesday.
A source at a rights group in Maiduguri said some 10 women who snuck out of Baga a few days after the first attack had reported that their daughters aged 10-20 had been kidnapped.
The militants have been waging an insurgency to establish an Islamic state for more than five years.
The number and scale of attacks rose sharply in 2014 after the government imposed emergency rule on the three worst-hit states in 2013, and the administration of President Jonathan has met growing criticism for failing to quash it.
Jonathan defended his record on tackling Boko Haram at the launch of his election campaign and blamed opposition candidate Muhammadu Buhari for Nigeria's ill-equipped army.

Boko Haram has taken over or rendered ungovernable swathes of the northeast, especially Borno state where Baga is located. It has also launched attacks in Chad and Cameroon, while Chad has appealed for international aid to support the refugees coming across its border.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Expecting Baby No. 2

Just over a year after giving birth to her first daughter Autumn, Jennifer Love Hewitt is pregnant again, ABC News has confirmed.
The former "Party of Five" star, 35, and her husband Brian Hallisay, 36, revealed they are having baby number two.
“Jennifer and Brian are thrilled to be expecting their second child,” her rep told ABC News.
Back in 2013, Love Hewitt spoke to ABC News about her first pregnancy and why they decided not to find out the gender of the baby.
"I don't know," she said of whether it's a boy or a girl. "It's one of life's greatest surprises and we wanted to keep it that way."
She also talked about the changes she felt during her first go around carrying a child.
"You wake up in the morning and you go, 'Wow, this is no longer my body,'" she said. "What's going to happen today? It teaches you to not be in control and I've been a control freak for a long time."

Mercy Johnson sends out a ‘Thank You’ Message: I Have Experienced Love from Unimaginable People

With the help of her press team, Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson has sent out a message of gratitude to her fans and followers.
She wrote:

One of the best feelings one can have is the feeling that some people who have never met you in person have your back.
I have experienced love from unimaginable people; Ghana, Liberia, Paris, UK, USA, Seychelles and all over the world.
Some met me crying, gave me gifts, took pictures, asked questions, and some, not so pleasant. But in all of these, I have no complaint because being where I am is a gift and privilege by God. A privilege and a place I never thought I would be, a few years ago. This level has its own attendant consequence, as I take in the blessing; I appreciate the not-so-pleasant side as well.  For this, I am grateful to God, my fans, and stakeholders in the industry who love me just the way I am.
I want to also say a very big thank you to my husband for giving me room to fly. Some men out there would probably have clipped my wings but Odi is not some kind of man. I want to say thank you for being so supportive and understanding.
I want to take this time to say thank you to everyone who made the journey of 2014 easier despite the attendant challenges. I am grateful to the marketers and my colleagues who stayed in touch with me even when I was pregnant, directors who were patient with me, fans who watched all the movies of 2014, those who took time out to search for me on Google, who corrected me in love and those who watched ‘30 Days in Atlanta’ (to make it biggest Nollywood movie in cinema history). I am also grateful to everyone who showed me one form of love or the other during the birth of our second son, Prince Henry: Nigerian Emabssy in the US, social media followers and my ever diligent media and management company, Bigsam Media.
I plan and hope that 2015 will be different from previous years. The jobs I will do will be slightly different from that of the past. I will take up more challenges. I will also have to balance things out because I still have to play the role of a wife and mother, but all in all, there should be a new Mercy Johnson of sort.
As per the style, I have received all your complaints and I will try and improve but please, do not forget I am just a down-to-earth-girl-next-door. Thank you.
And please, AMVCA is around the corner, let’s win again together this year, on how to vote, check @bigsammedia on Twitter.
As always I am grateful. I wish you the best this year has to offer. Happy New Year.

“God has anointed me to lead a revolution against Islamic jihadists” – Oyedepo

A fiery video of Bishop David Oyedepo preaching at Living Faith Church has been uploaded to the internet in which Africa’s wealthiest clergymen angrily advocates death for the ‘Islamic demons’ in Northern Nigeria.
“God has anointed me to lead a revolution against Islamic jihadists,” Oyedepo is seen heatedly shouting to his congregation in the YouTube clip. “If you catch anyone that looks like them – kill him! Kill him and pull out his neck. I will spill his blood on the ground. What nonsense!”
“What Islamic demons,” the influential cleric continued, his entire message interspersed with loud ‘praying in tongues’. “If Nigeria waits for the church to rise, Nigeria will disappear as a nation. You mean government cannot protect people? What a mess… Even the president said they (Boko Haram) have infiltrated his government. To do what? Must the North continue to rule? What devils!”Oyedepo further offered a prayer seemingly supporting a split between Nigeria’s Muslim North and Christian South. “All the Northern forces that are sponsoring these uprisings and killings – I decree the curse of God upon them. Lord, if it is Your will to break up Nigeria – break it now!”
The Winners Chapel Bishop, in his heated address, further implied that the censuses carried out in Nigeria were hugely inaccurate. “Where are the human beings? I wouldn’t be surprised if all the North is equal to Lagos! We have never had a successful census in this country.”
He directly addressed the rumours that Boko Haram agents were targeting his church. “I was even told from reports that they were targeting this church. If you see anyone here, kill him. Kill him and spill his blood on the ground. I am saying that to you. What nonsense! What devils!”
Oyedepo claimed he was sent by God ‘as a prophet of liberation’ to release Africa from the snare of Islamic terrorists. “Therefore, the roots of Boko Haram – whether from Sudan or Saudi Arabia – become rotten today! I stand today with every anointing on me and I declare the Boko Haram camp cursed! I declare their collaborators cursed! I decree their sponsors cursed!”According to Oyedepo, “I have called the fire too many times. I am privileged to be an expert in calling it. If I look at a witch with my kind of eyes, it is dead. There is no praying. If my eyes meet your eyes, the bigger will consume the smaller one.”
Although there is no date on the sermon televised on Dunamis TV belonging to Abuja Pastor Paul Enenche, the clip was uploaded in November 2014.
Oyedepo’s terse message comes at a time when tensions are already rising in view of the upcoming Nigerian election in February 2015 which will pit former Head of State General Muhammadu Buhari against incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Best Diets Of 2015: Ranked By U.S. News And World Report

It’s that time of the year: U.S. News & World Report has ranked their Best Diets of 2015, the fifth year of the compilation. The heart-healthy DASH diet tops the list of Best Overall Diet for the fifth year straight, and Weight Watchers is again the Best Weight-Loss Diet. The Paleo Diet, with its many restrictions and potential frustrations, fell last, which has been the trend over several years.
team of health experts from various institutions around the country, aided by the U.S. New & World Report staff, combed the data and ranked each diet in seven categories: How easy it is to follow; how well it produces short-term weight loss; how well it produces long-term weight loss; its nutritional completeness; its safety; and how well it may prevent and manage diabetes and heart disease. The experts’ rankings were converted into a score from 1 (worst) to 5 (best). Among the ranked diets are the Best Diet Overall, the Best Diet for Weight-Loss, the Best Heart Healthy Diet, the Best Diabetes Diet, the Best Plant-Based Diet.
This year, the team added some lesser-known diets to the mix, like the HMR diet, the Supercharged Hormone Diet, and the Body Reset Diet. Detailed analyses of each of the diets can be found on the US News Best Diets page.
670px-vegetables_1370912_nevit
It goes without saying that no one diet is right for everyone across the board. Senior health and wellness editor at U.S. News, Angela Haupt, points out that the central aim of the rankings is to give the public a rundown of the diets in very clear terms, so that people will have the tools to make the best personaldecision. “We know that dieting is very, very hard,” says Haupt. “People often fail because maybe they’ve chosen the wrong method. Our ranking is analytical, yet understandable.”
Think first about your specific requirements in a diet, rather than just looking at what’s number one, says Haupt. “People should consider their particular needs. Maybe you’re more interested in diabetes or heart health, or short- or long-term weight loss. Some diets are better or worse, depending on whether you want to eat out or drink alcohol. If you’re a foodie, for example, then you shouldn’t choose a meal replacement diet! These are all important things to consider.”
Hopefully the rankings will help people at least get a better sense of the pros and cons of each diet, and think a little more deeply about the logistics of each. Choosing a diet for specific areas of health, like heart or diabetes, is more clear-cut. But for weight loss, understanding the rules and restrictions of each diet plan can be helpful. “The diet failure rate is so high,” says Haupt. “There’s a new fad diet in the news every day. What’s going to live up to hype? When you latch onto a diet blindly, it usually doesn’t work. You have to think about what does and doesn’t work for you—and your own needs and idiosyncrasies. I hope the rankings will empower people to study up on the different diets, and boost their feelings of personal connection to the diet. We know that no one diet is right for everyone.”

President Jonathan should give Oyedepo a chance to finish Boko haram – Bayo Omolola

Dear President Goodluck Jonathan:
Bishop David Oyedepo is ready to wage the war against Boko Haram. The report above clearly shows that he and the people around him can defeat Boko Haram. I would advise you invite and send him to the dangerous zone where the military has not been able to defeat the monster. If the report about Oyedepo is true, it will be good to make him lead the federal soldiers. If he fails, soldiers can continue from where he stops to fight.
Here is a Yoruba expression that capture’s the idea about Oyedepo message:
“Eni ti o jagun ri,
A ro pe jagunjagun kan o le ja
A ni bo ba semi ni,
Ma ja kunkunkun sotun-un,
Ma ja kunkunkun sosi,
Ma ja kunkunkun siwa,
Ma ja ja kunkunkun sehin-
Maa segun tagbaratagbara.”
“A person who has never been a soldier
May think a soldier is incapable.
May say, “If I were a soldier,
I would fight gallantly on the right side,
I would fight gallantly on the left side,
I would fight gallantly forward,
I would fight gallantly backward –
With all my power, defeat the enemies.”
I know it is difficult to say Oyedepo should go and fight physically. May be he can be a negotiator. With his power, he may know how how to locate the leader of Boko Haram and talk to him so that Nigeria can have peace. I hope his congregation who knows better will not fear that he may never return from the callous monster.
President Goodluck Jonathan, religious leaders have contributed to the disasters in Nigeria. Many of them know political leaders that have wrecked the country, tolerated them, benefited from their largesse, and make her weak. While I do not say Oyedepo is one of them (may be he is), I feel that it is not wrong if he decides to help Nigeria at a time when Boko Haram seems so powerful and Nigeria looks very weak in all aspects except in corruption. Oyedepo might know the right button to press to end this disaster. I doubt that, but who knows?
